Woman Resurfaces After 40 Years With Mermaids

MWENEZI – An 8-Year-Old Girl Who Was Reportedly Snatched Away By A Mermaid Spirit While Bathing Along A Stream Some 40 Years Ago Has Reportedly Resurfaced, TellZim News Has Heard.

Rowai Chihwakwa, of Matande village under Chief Negari in Ward 2 of Mwenezi East, resurfaced a few days ago after her family members engaged some traditional healers who performed intense rituals at the scene of her disappearance for several days.

 

The now grown woman is said to have disappeared while bathing along Matande stream which feeds into Runde River.

 

In a phone interview with TellZim News , Rowai’s brother Alfred Chihwakwa, who is MDC Alliance Mwenezi East district chairperson, confirmed that her sister was indeed back from the unknown spiritual world.

 

"It’s true my sister Rowai came reappeared on Saturday (October 31) after we engaged the services of a woman from Zaka. As I am speaking right now, I am with her but she is still struggling to speak and eat. She does not look that old though. We hope that by tomorrow she will be stable and as a family we will be able to divulge more information,” said Chihwakwa.

 

The family refused to provide TellZIm News with a picture of the returnee, saying she was still under the care of traditional healers who needed to perform all the necessary rites first.

 

When contacted for comment Chief Negari said he was aware that the Chihwakwa family had for several years been making efforts to retrieve their relative.

 

"I heard about it last night so I will look for more details about the issue. What I truly know is that the family members engaged me and they informed me that they will bring some healers who will retrieve the body of their daughter who disappeared several years ago. I authorised them to go ahead with the programme because they had been doing this almost every year," said Chief Negari.

Delta Beverages Supervisor Fails To Pay Sexual Worker

A 28-year-old Mashava sex worker recently appeared before Masvingo provincial magistrate Langton Ndokera after she was dragged to court by a Delta Beverages supervisor for seizing his cell phone and two-plate stove after he allegedly failed to pay for the night they had spent together.

Sarah Buruvuru popularly known in her circles as Lynn, pleaded guilty to unauthorised borrowing or use of property when she unlawfully took a two plate stove Chinese model and Cell C Android cell phone that belonged to Andrew Kutekwa.

Buruvuru was warned by the magistrate against unlawfully taking other people’s property and was let go as the magistrate considered that she had two little children to take care of.

It was the State’s case that on July 30, at around 02:00hrs at Liquids Bar, Kutekwa approached Buruvuru who was standing at a corner near Club Lagoon and asked to take her to his place in Rhodene.

At around 06:00 hrs in the morning, Buruvuru rose and demanded her payment but Kutekwa told her he did not have cash handy and asked her to wait until she could go to the bank and withdraw some money.

Buruvuru would, however, have none of it and she seized a two-plate stove and a black Cell C Android cell phone from Kutekwa’s house, telling him he could follow her and get his property back when he settled the debt.

As days passed Kutekwa met again with Buruvuru at Liquids Bar on November 1, and the police were alerted leading to the arrest of Buruvuru.

On November 5, the two plate stove was recovered.

Masvingo Residents Reject 2019 Budget

…‘proposed rate hike unjustified’

Some 70 residents on November 20 filed letters of rejection to the 2019 budget proposed by the Masvingo City Council, saying proposals to hike water rates by 66 percent were unjustified.

Masvingo Residents and Ratepayer Association (Murra) helped the residents to file their letters of objection with council as provided for by the Urban Councils Act.

In the budget, council proposes a 66 percent increase in the amount charged for water, meaning that residents in high density suburbs, who are currently paying around 66 cents per cubic metre of water, would be paying around $1.26 for the same amount of water.

Those in low density suburbs are currently paying around 88 cents per cubic metre of water, but they would be paying around $1.54 for the same amount.

Most of the residents rejected the proposed increase on the basis that council was currently not supplying water reliably, and that the economy was too tough to merit a rate hike.

One resident, Sungano Zvarebwanashe said she disagreed with the proposed increase as she already found the current charges exorbitant, adding that council was not doing enough for the rates she is currently paying.

 “As a resident of Ward 4, I have gone through the proposed budget of 2019 and I do not agree with the proposed increment as these changes are too exorbitant. I cannot afford them as the economy is not approving and also not getting the good service delivery we are expecting from what we are paying for,” said Zvarebwanashe.

Murra spokesperson, Godfrey Mtimba told TellZim News the organisation was fully supportive of residents’ stance as current water supplies did not correspond with the money being paid by residents.

“As Murra, we stand with residents in rejecting this planned rip-off. It is many weeks now with not even a single drop of water for many residents yet we are being asked to pay more. We are dealing a council that in August and September failed to give residents water for four weeks and now it’s back to the same thing. Why then try to increase rates? Can’t they see many people cannot even afford the current charges,” said Mtimba.

Last week, the Women Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCoZ) presented a petition to council officials, saying the current water crisis was a threat to the health, safety and security of women especially.
